"In a nutshell this single project will change the way Port Colborne looks for an out-of-towner coming into town," said Gino Spada, chairman of the Port Colborne Gateway Association.

The first renovation project -- the visitor information centre -- is underway to restore it to its original state. The side addition built in 1955, which houses the Port Colborne-Wainfleet Chamber of Commerce office, will be removed and the office will be relocated to the back of the old Humberstone Town Hall.

"It's a heritage building. There are rules to follow and we will restore it to what was there and it will be enhanced," Spada said.

The next step involves MBTW Group working with Upper Canada Consultants. They will take the Olde Humberstone Main Street Area Community Improvement Plan urban design and streetscape guidelines and turn them into working drawings to address new sidewalks, curbs, lighting, garbage bins, pavement and other streetscaping.
